About

Winter is coming, friends! Spend a cozy night with us and get yourself all ready. Clinical herbalist Abby Rappoport and local food writer Anne Willhoit team up to guide you through the process of a variety of herbal preparations you can make at home.

They’ll answer questions you didn't know you had, and bring some kitchen wisdom to your recipe box. You'll make a convivial berry shrub, a boosting elderberry elixir, and a medicinal herbal infusion to take home and enjoy. A light snack and hot drink will be shared by the group during Q&A.

We're reprising this fun class that includes lots of laughter, a community feel, and many goodies for you to take home for the dark days ahead. Gather your friends and spend a Saturday night with us in the kitchen.

Abby Rappoport

Abby, a medicinal plant lover, has always had a deep affection for plants (her first job out of college was as a floral designer). Her interest in using them medicinally bloomed while she was studying for her master's degree in Chinese medicine at the Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley, Calif. In school she focused on herbal medicine, and after graduation became registered as a professional clinical herbalist with the American Herbalist Guild. She's dedicated to teaching how powerful plant medicine can be, and is always happy to talk your ear off about medicinal plants! When she’s not working in her apothecary or garden, you can find Abby teaching somatic movement therapy, using movement as medicine to help folks feel better in their bodies. Connect with her at www.abbyrapp.com or on Instagram @medicinegarden_pnw or @movement_breath_health

Anne Willhoit

Anne is a teacher, food writer, photographer, and parent. She writes the biweekly From Scratch column for the Kitsap Sun and has published work in several magazines. She tries really hard to only make one big kitchen mess per day but rarely achieves this goal. She likes to collect and play with recipes and is always grateful for the seasonal bounty that our island provides. Anne is excited to return to teaching at BARN and has been involved with it since the beautiful kitchen and concept was just a mere gleam in the founding committee's eye. Follow her food journey and maybe learn a few things on Instagram @aawillhoit.
