About

Weave around a form using prepared western red cedar and other natural materials like loose seagrass, waxed linen, leather, and reed. The purse will be finished with a flip-and-fold rim and a leather flap secured with a handmade clay or wooden button. A faux-leather strap is braided and attached.

You'll learn plaiting, twining, reverse arrow, three-rod wale, twill, and three-strand braid.

  • The purse will measure about 6 by 4 by 1.5 inches.
  • Feel free to bring decorative beads and embellishments to make your purse your own style.

A $95 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you need.

Jennifer Wool

Jennifer Wool is from San Jose, CA, and has been creating 3-D artwork for over 40 years working in clay, gourds, basketry, and fiber arts. She gives basketry workshops throughout California, Oregon, and upstate New York. Inspired by the beauty of nature around her, Jennifer gathers and harvests tree barks, grasses, sticks, and many other natural materials that she incorporates into her artwork. She enjoys each step in the creative process and teaching basketry skills to her students.
