Weave an alpaca scarf using Gist's Ode Alpaca Weaving Yarn, in a color of your choice (see "Materials" below to select your color).

You'll learn three techniques: using pickup sticks to create a lace panel, hem stitching, and fringe twisting. The resulting scarf is spectacularly soft and cozy, and the techniques you'll learn can be applied to many future projects.

Details

  • Skill level: Beginner-Intermediate. Previous experience warping a rigid heddle loom is preferred. Those without prior experience may take longer than the class time to complete their project.
  • Bring a lunch for our 45-minute midday break. There is a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

Materials

  • A $30 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need, including a cone of Ode 100% Alpaca fiber.
  • Choice of Color 
    • Please choose one color from Gist's Ode Alpaca Weaving Yarn. Note: "Special Edition" colors (lipstick, denim, bark) are not available.
    • Email your color selection by Dec. 16, 2026, to the Fiber Weaving Coordinator.  If you do not choose one, the grey color (cloud) will be ordered for you.

Instructor
Alison Waller

Originally from Yorkshire, UK, Alison lived in China for several years before moving to Puget Sound in 2019 with her husband and two young children. She has enjoyed knitting, crochet, and working with beads since childhood, but it wasn't until moving to Washington that she tried weaving. In the last four years, she's become obsessed both with making baskets and making fiber on a floor loom or rigid heddle loom. She has taken classes with many local and nationally recognized weavers at BARN, developing her skills as a weaver and a teacher. She’s now delighted to serve as the weaving coordinator in the Fiber Arts Studio, where she also teaches rigid heddle and floor loom classes.
