About

Making shepherd's pie consists of a few cooking stages, including  mise en place (a French term meaning all ingredients are measured, cut, peeled, sliced, grated, etc., before you start cooking), sautéing, and preparing ground meat, saucy gravy, and mashed potatoes. And, finally, there is assembling and baking.

Shepherd's pie, also known as cottage pie, originated in Ireland in the 1700s and is a great dish for introducing young cooks to many aspects of culinary arts. The class is perfect for young cooks who want to get more experience in the kitchen. The cooking process will be shared as a collaborative effort between students with tasks distributed based on the students’ comfort zones and skills.

Students will learn standard knife skills, the importance of mise en place, and the use of seasonal ingredients to enhance a recipe.

Details

A materials fee of $20, included in the price of the class, will cover everything you need.
