From mastering the art of guacamole to crafting sizzling taco fillings and delectable sides, this hands-on class is designed to empower youths to become the family taco maestro. Each week, new skills and delicious recipes ensure students can contribute to family taco nights.
Week 1: Guacamole, Pico de Gallo, and Classic Salsa Recipes and More
This week the focus is on learning the essentials of crafting mouthwatering toppings as we explore ingredients (including avocados, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and more), knife skills (how to safely chop and dice ingredients), hands-on cooking (those recipes!), and food presentation for the taco bar.
Week 2: Standout Proteins for Taco Fillings
This week is all about proteins! You'll master the art of cooking flavorful proteins to use as the main filling including protein options (chicken, beef, vegetarian), marinating techniques, and cooking methods such as grilling, sautéing, or baking.
Week 3: Sides — Black Beans, Spanish Rice, and Roasted Vegetables
The final week focuses on rounding out the taco bar with delectable sides. You'll explore cooking different types of grains and vegetables, a well as the role of sides in a taco meal, and how to prepare black beans, Spanish rice, and roasted vegetables. We'll emphasize the importance of balancing flavors and choosing complementary sides.
Each class will be a blend of hands-on experience, culinary education, and, fun. The course aims to help young chefs gain culinary confidence, create a “taco mastery toolkit,” and, most importantly, use their newfound expertise to create joyful family dinners.
