Choose from three plans for tiny houses, all of which have flair and show that small, affordable spaces can shine with great design. The instructor, a retired architect with numerous awards for modern house designs, focuses on developing options for tiny houses because they are a new building type that today's youth may wind up choosing as a starter house.

Using an architect's scale and a T-square, you'll draw the pieces to a scale of 1/2 inch to 1 foot on 3/16-inch-thick plywood. Then you'll cut the parts using a bandsaw, scroll saw, and hand saws. You'll also make to-scale windows and doors. After sanding the parts, you'll assemble your model with wood glue using tape as temporary clamps. The roof will lift off, giving access to the interior. Depending on time available, you can make and install interior components.

A $10 materials fee, included in the class fee, covers all the materials you will need.

Project

Your finished model will be about 1 foot high and 4 or 5 inches wide.

Class Policies

• Ages 12-16 are welcome.

• You must wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
