Youth in Stitches: Beginning Sewing for Youth 11+

Have fun and learn to sew at the same time.  Thisclass is guaranteed to keep you in stitches. Students will learn how to:

  • ·      use a sewing machine
  • ·      become a straight stitch wizard
  • ·      practice ziz-zag sewing stitches
  • ·      learn about sergers and how to use them.

During this 4-day class you will learn these skillswhile making a book bag and pillowcase with fabricsthat express your personality.  Join teacher RenaeMatson and your fellow workshop participants for agreat time while learning how to sew.

Instructor Bio:  Renae Matson has been sewingforever – at least since high school.  She taughtteen classes for Singer Sewing Company ‘Back in theDay.’  She is a former high school teacher whotaught psychology.  Now her job is to play, whichincludes sewing clothes for her grandchildren,sewing with her grandchildren, and for herself.  

Materials needed (what student should bring): 

  • A sewing machine from home that you will beusing in the future. Bring an instruction manualfor your sewing machine.  Let us know if you need to rent asewing machine for the class. ($40 for the workshop)
  •  Pillowcases require the following fabric and notions
    2/3 yard for pillowcase
    1/4 yard for trim #1
    1/8 yard for trim #2
    Thread to match fabric
  • Bookbag/purse requires the following fabric and notions
    1/2 yard of fabric #1
    1/4 yard of fabric #2 for contrast
    Thread to match fabric
