About

In this  hands-on class, young chefs will embark on a journey to learn essential cooking skills while creating a comforting dish perfect for a cozy fall night. You'll practice precision and safety with knives, use the skills of sautéing to enhance flavors and textures, and explore variations in ingredients and seasonings to personalize your shepherd's pie.

Believed to have been developed in the British Isles in the late 1700s or early 1800s, shepherd's pie is a dish made with layers of ground meat, vegetables, and mashed potatoes.

  • This recipe contains dairy and wheat. A vegetarian option is available.
  • Skill level: Beginner.
  • Bring water and a snack.

A materials fee of $15, included in the price of the class, includes everything you'll need.

Class Policies

  • You must wear closed-toe shoes in the studio.
  • You must be registered for the class (no drop-ins).
Instructor
Erin Girard

Erin is an experienced, credentialed classroom teacher with more than 24 years' experience teaching and working with children in a variety of settings including public schools, online, special education, and outdoor education. She holds a bachelor of arts degree, and a masters in education degree, and has completed post-graduate work in special education. Having always enjoyed cooking, Erin began adapting recipes as a mom of a child with severe food allergies and, in 2018, began teaching cooking and baking on a global ed-tech platform for learners 5-18. In 2020, Erin and her family relocated to the Pacific Northwest where they love to get outdoors to mountain bike, kayak, hike, and backpack.
