Birds that nest in tree cavities have a hard time finding a suitable home these days because so many older trees have been cut down. Birdhouses give them a good place to nest.

In this class, you'll learn about different types of birdhouses and the features that make them suitable for different kinds of birds. You'll choose the species you want to attract, then build a house with the appropriate features, using plans from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

• Learn to use measuring tools, a bandsaw, sanders, a block plan, a drill press, and various hand tools.
• Explore different types of fasteners, including nails, screws, and screws with plugs.
• Time permitting, you can embellish your box with decorative wood burning, known as pyrography.

Class Policies

• Open to youth ages 12-16.
• You must wear safety glasses, tie back long hair, and avoid dangling clothing or jewelry. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
