**This workshop will be live streamed via Zoom.** 

More than an introductory class, participants will learn about Welding Symbols as they appear on construction documents, Welding Rod classification, with special attention to rods most commonly used, basic types of welding joints & terms, and how typically encountered joints are prepared. This class focuses on SMAW- Shielded Metal Arc Welding- commonly known as “stick welding.” Both the equipment (AC welder) and consumables (rods only) required for stick welding are relatively inexpensive, and could be part of a home shop. SMAW is also the entry-level certification for professional welders. This class will cover basics and pro tips, and concludes with a Q&A session so you can ask specifics about a particular project, or about the profession.

This will be the first in a series of online classes that will cover other types of welding (MIG, TIG), types of materials (aluminum, stainless), and typical challenges. Similar Q&A session at end of class, usually with a "panel of pros."

Instructor Bio:
Marc Williamson has been a union Ironworker for over 35 years and has held unlimited certifications. He has welded heavy structural steel, reinforcing bars for commercial docks, as well as various types of architectural steel projects.
