About

This refresher class is designed for BARN woodworkers who answer "yes" to any of these questions:

  • Have you put in a monitor shift in the past 12 months?
  • Are you feeling a bit rusty on studio safety procedures?
  • Have you noticed changes in the stationary power tools in the studio?

The class is intended as a conversation, led by two studio managers. It will include:

  • Studio safety and administrative procedures, including participant sign-in and credential check, capacity limits and non-member fees.
  • A hands-on review of each stationary power tool, covering key safety practices and what we have learned from recent incidents.
  • Ample opportunity to raise questions, hear answers from your fellow monitors and managers, and share scenarios of problems you've encountered during your monitor shifts.

We are scheduling multiple sessions of this class. If your first choice of date and time is full, please select another. If no class still has room, please join the waitlist for one of them so we can try to schedule an additional session. If the scheduled times don't work for you and you want to request a class at a different time, please email woodclasses@bainbridgebarn.org.

Details:

  • Open only to existing Woodworking Studio safety monitors. (A class to qualify new safety monitors is also being scheduled.)
  • BARN is practicing safety measures for the health and well-being of all participants, in accordance with state and CDC guidelines. Everyone is required to wear masks, wash or sanitize hands frequently, maintain a distance of 6 feet between individuals, and stay home if they are sick. Overall BARN safety policies are here. Studio-specific safety policies are here.
  • In addition to the mask requirement, you must wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.

Instructors: Tad Lhamon, Mike Rehder and Jamie Straw
