Do you ever get confused about which sanding tools or sandpaper to use on your projects? Do you want tips on how to remove milling marks, prepare for a stain finish, or take a surface to a polish?

This class, part of the Woodworking Basics series, explores the tools and abrasive media available in the Woodworking & Small Boatbuilding Studio and explains what works best in different circumstances. You can explore equipment from large to small, including your own hands.

Prerequisites

None.

Class Policies

  • Ages 14 and up are welcome
  • Wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.
Instructor
Jeff Williams

Jeff is a fourth-generation woodworker drawing on 150 years of experience. He served 30 years as a firefighter in the Orange County Fire Authority in California including 10 years as director of marketing and events for the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association. Jeff worked with the Boy Scouts, Vista Unified School District, and as events director for the 400-member North Coast Aquatics Swim Team in Carlsbad, Calif.. After a move to the Northwest in 2008, Jeff joined the Bainbridge Island Community Woodworkers. This led to becoming the Woodworking Studio's first studio lead and manager of BARN’s multi-studio cabinet build project during initial construction. He continues to work on the Woodworking Studio's steering committee, BARN's facilities committee, and as facilitator for numerous internal BARN projects. In 2018, Jeff joined BARN's Board of Directors and now serves on BARN’s Tree Farm committee, planning the proposed BARN expansion.
