Learn about the adventures that have brought the tall ship Adventuress back to tip-top shape in this free presentation open to all.

This 133-foot, gaff-rigged schooner launched in 1913. It's now set to raise topsails this spring for the first time in decades. Mark Donahue and Ken Greff will walk through some of the steps it took.

As many BARN members know from first-hand experience, wooden boats need frequent maintenance. That's even more true for tall ships like the Adventuress. Henry Sharpe, a BARN member active in the Metal Fabrication and Woodworking studios, and many others have worked for years to restore the deck (the picture shows that work, in 2019), hull, and auxiliary power system. Some of the machining was done at BARN. Last winter, the crew built lighter topmasts and moved and added ballast so that now, during certain wind conditions, the Adventuress can raise three topsails, not just the four lower, working sails.

These monthly meetings offer informative presentations on various aspects of woodworking, plus a short business meeting. It's a good opportunity to meet other woodworkers of all skill levels, learn what's new in the shop, and share your thoughts on class offerings and studio operations.
