About

BARN will host Paul Erb, a retired Naval architect and lifelong sailor now living on Bainbridge Island, talking about the Port Madison pram, which will be on display in our front parking lot.

A pram is a small, lightweight, nearly flat-bottomed boat with a broad transom, usually with a squared-off bow. The Port Madison pram was designed by William Garden in 1955 for the Port Madison Yacht Club on Bainbridge Island as a youth sail training vessel. The design quickly became popular among club members with dozens of prams built. It was raced regularly for decades.

Paul’s free presentation will focus on the history, restoration, and future of the Port Madison pram. He's a member of the Port Madison Yacht Club in Hidden Cove on Bainbridge Island, very active in the sailing community volunteering in various capacities throughout the Seattle area, and volunteers for Sound Experience and the Schooner Adventuress in support of its mission of youth education on the water. He also volunteers for the Bainbridge and Port Townsend high school sailing teams, Seattle’s Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union, the Northwest Maritime Center in Port Townsend, and the Port Townsend Sailing Association
