About

See what's involved in turning local trees into lumber at this month's woodworking presentation.

We will begin with a short meeting in the Great Room accompanied by coffee and nibbles. Then we will walk over to the grassy field just south of BARN, where Brent Herrick, a local miller, will use his portable sawmill to turn madrona logs from Fort Ward Park into lumber. The wood was generously donated by the Bainbridge park and recreation district. You'll be able to ask questions about how to assess logs to see if they are worth sawing into lumber and how to store and dry the wood.

After the sawmill activity, we will be holding a wood sale with a field trip to the facility where we store wood that has been donated to BARN. Bring your checkbook or cash!

Everyone is welcome at these monthly meetings, which always offer an informative presentation on an aspect of woodworking, plus a short business meeting. It's a good opportunity to meet other woodworkers of all skill levels, learn what's new in the shop, and share your thoughts on class offerings and studio operations. If you have a project you want to show off, please bring it.

No registration is required.
