About

Tuttie Peetz, president of Olympic Driftwood Sculptors in Sequim, will talk about how the natural shape of driftwood can be refined while its inherent nature can be preserved in this free event that is open to all.

In 2018, Washington Lt. Gov. Cyrus Habib presented one of Peetz's sculptures to the Dalai Lama as a gift representing the state — an honor Peetz considers "the highlight of my career!” She was a featured artist in Living on the Peninsula Magazine, Peninsula Woman, and Tidepools Magazine (twice).

“Creating a work of art and beauty from something nature has provided is truly a gift," says Peetz, who had a 25-year career in  corporate finance before moving to the Pacific Northwest and discovering wood sculpting. "Following the spirit of the wood in developing the sculpture, while still leaving the essence of the tree, is truly a magical experience. While nature is the best artist, we are privileged to enhance her beauty and share the results with others.”

Olympic Wood Sculptors organized in 2008 and features numerous examples of driftwood sculpture on its website. The organization sponsors an annual show, monthly meetings, and classes.
