About

If you've already taken at least one woodturning class at BARN and want to renew your safety practices and gouge skills, this class is for you.

The instructor will lead a brief overview of the lathe and how to mount stock,
then review how to present the gouge and prevent “catches.” Once you feel comfortable, you will be able to practice turning some shapes on wood that BARN will provide. The focus of this class is on turning between centers, not making bowls.

Details:

  • Ages 14+ are welcome.
  • This class is free but you must register, and you must have already taken a woodturning class at BARN or been cleared to work on the lathes during Open Studio. A pen-turning class does not qualify you for this class.
  • BARN is practicing safety measures for the health and well-being of all participants, in accordance with state and CDC guidelines. Everyone is required to wear masks, wash or sanitize hands frequently, maintain a distance of 6 feet between individuals, and stay home if they are sick. Overall BARN safety policies are here. Studio-specific safety policies are here.
  • Wear closed-toe shoes, avoid loose-fitting clothing and dangling jewelry, and tie back long hair. Bring your own safety glasses if possible.

Instructor: Bob Abresch
