About

Learn basic safety principles of key woodworking power tools with the goal of being checked out to use them during the BARN Woodshop's 30 hours a week of open studio time.

Everyone who uses the shop during open studio time needs to be certified to use these tools. Certification is also a pre-requisite for advanced woodworking classes.

In this class, you will get hands-on experience with the following tools.

You will get more out of this class if you first view videos that cover these tools. See them by clicking on the link-enabled tool names above. (Hint: You can go back to these at any time to review safety protocols. Find them on the BARN website, BainbridgeBARN.org, by clicking under the "Studio" menu on the woodshop page.)

Details:

Please dress in the same way you will be expected to do when you use the shop for open studio time. That means:
  • Wear close-toe shoes.
  • Bring and wear safety glasses.
  • Wear hearing protectors when warranted; bring your own or use BARN's.
  • Tie back long hair. Avoid loose-fitting clothing; roll up sleeves.
