Learn the basics of turning wood on a lathe in this group intro class focusing on different forms of spindle turning.  Students will begin learning tool use on a practice bead and cove stick before choosing from a variety of projects including a pen, bottle stopper, honey dipper, or wooden egg.  All wood and supplies are provided for class projects. Estimated materials fee is $5.

No previous experience is necessary.    The class will cover safety, wood selection, tool types, sharpening, and lathe adjustment and accessories, including different types of chucks and mandrels.   Completing this class will also qualify you for Coached Turning Time, when you will have lathe for your exclusive use and an instructor available.   INSTRUCTOR:  Bruce Claiborne began turning in earnest in 2008 after completing the  40 hour Craft Supply Basic Woodturning course under professional turner, Kirk DeHeer.  Currently Bruce volunteers regularly at the Bainbridge High School Woods I and II classes to help students with their turning skills and projects.  Bruce is an active member of the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners.
