About

BARN member:  $11
Non-member:    $20
One two-hour class

Learn the basics of safe use of the table saw, planer and jointer.

Part of the BARN Woodshop’s Woodworking 101 series, this class is designed to help you become certified to use these tools during open shop times. Each student will make practice cuts on each of the machines, using wood provided at the class.

No experience is necessary, but students should prepare beforehand by reading the safety information that will be emailed to registrants. This will maximize the amount of hands-on time in the class and enable students to ask about any details they do not understand.

There will be a $10 materials fee, payable to the instructor at the class.

This class can be taken independently or in combination with other classes in the Woodworking 101 series.

NOTE: The first six people to sign up will be able to participate at the date and time listed. Additional sections will be added if demand warrants. Please email if the class is full and you would like to be on a list for the next class.

INSTRUCTOR: David Grant got hooked on woodworking as a youngster, when he participated in a 4-H project in Brookfield, Connecticut. That was 50 years ago, and he's still at it, having learned many lessons along the way. "I'm self-taught and still have all my digits," he says, with his customary humor. David is a board member of BARN and was president of Bainbridge Island Community Woodshop before it merged with BARN. He's also been active on many community service projects, including helping Cub Scouts in their pinewood  derby project.

Jeanne Huber will assist in this class.
