About

This class has prerequisites, please see below.

Fabrication – MIG or TIG Welding #3 is the third class in the sequence leading to use of the welding studio. The emphasis of MIG or TIG Welding #3 will be on the materials preparation, layout, clamping, and fabrication of precise welded joints.  Students will prepare a square or rectangular 90 degree frame and/or other precision welds in various positions. Studio goal is satisfaction with completion of a series of precisely welded joints.

The class is based on students' ability to safely and comfortably use hand and stationary power tools available in the welding studio for cutting, grinding, and preparing materials.

(This class is open to Monitors who wish to practice or familiarize themselves -- providing the class is not fully subscribed.)

Details and Prerequisites:

  • Students should have completed Introduction to MIG or TIG Welding #1 and #2. This is a combined class covering the essential elements of fabrication with either MIG or TIG welding. The class is limited to 4 participants.
  • Students who are not familiar with the use of power tools in the Welding Studio (chop saw, horizontal and vertical band saws, drill press, hand and stationary grinders and/or "porta-band") should participate in the free introduction to welding studio power tools before participating in the Fabrication Class.  The class -- Welding: Introduction to Power Tools -- on January 9th is free but requires registration
  • There will be an additional $18 materials fee added to the price of class when your register.
  • BARN will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Participants must wear natural fiber clothing, long pants, long sleeves, closed toe shoes (natural fiber or leather), no stretch fabrics, and long hair tied back.  Dress warmly, there is no heat in the welding studio.

Instructor:
Erin Munter was raised locally on the Island. In her 20's she moved to Oakland, California and attended the welding program at Laney College for 4 years. During this time she interned and volunteered at a metal arts school called The Crucible. She returned to Bainbridge Island and began doing furniture bases and other fabrication for Coyote Woodshop. Eventually she moved on to work at an Island fabricating shop as well as teach at another Kitsap area school aimed towards children's welding education. She still currently does fabrication all over Kitsap. Her passion is everything welded including large and small indoor and outdoor household amenities. She also takes part in the local art community with sculptures in local shows past and future.
