About

Learn how to make intricate and beautiful tablet woven bands with this popular technique — where tablets or cards are used to create the shed through which the weft is passed. The bands you'll create can be used for bookmarks but also for hat bands, key chains, bracelets, wristlets for a bag, and so on!

You'll learn introductory tablet weaving techniques, how to read a tablet weaving draft, making a warp and threading the cards, and then how to use the cards to weave the bands. You'll also get a chance to learn backstrap weaving if you're interested.

Details

  • A $20 materials fee, included in the cost of the class, covers all the yarn you'll need as well as a printed handout to take home.
  • Tablet weaving cards and shuttles will be available in the studio, but you're encouraged to bring your own set of cards if you have one.

Class Policies

Ages 14 and up are welcome.

Instructor
Dax Joubert-Bousson

Dax is an impassioned artist whose preferred mediums are fiber and clay. Dax has a degree in neuroscience from Western Washington University in Bellingham, but in the last three years, they have found their passion in both art and agriculture. They spin yarn and naturally dyed wool, as well as weave, and throw pots on the wheel. Last year, they spent 11 months in New Zealand learning all about sheep and shepherding. They wish to one day have their own farm with sheep, a dye garden, and a fiber and pottery studio where they can hold workshops.
