This is going to be a great day, full of weaving information from our BARN Fiber Arts Studio Artist-in-Residence, Robyn Spady.  

Who Should Attend: This is a program for anyone who has completed an introductory weaving class and has used at least a 4-shaft loom.  If you have taken an introductory class from Deb Sweet at BARN -- this would be a great workshop to take.

Materials fees - $8 for spiral-bound, color-printed handout of all handouts. Please bring in cash or check made out to BARN.

This class is open to people 16 and older.

Please bring a bag lunch. BARN has a refrigerator available to store your lunch in.

There will be a morning and afternoon program.

Morning Program:

•  Deciphering the Drawdown - Do you ever feel like you need a background in cryptography to decipher weaving drawdowns?  Are the terms “turning a draft” and “skeleton tie-ups” a mystery?  By understanding how a pattern is developed, a weaver will know why the pattern weaves the design it does, learn how to create distinctive and innovative designs, and augment the possibilities of a single threading by changing the tie-up and/or the treadling.  

• The Fab Four - The Beatles are not the only “Fab Four.” Four-shaft looms are fabulous and frequently underestimated for their potential and versatility. Much of this value may be found in uncommon weave structures capable of producing distinctive and remarkable results. In this presentation, weave structures explored will include, but are not limited to: Diversified plain weave, integrated weaves, swivel, single block bead leno, corduroy, Bedford cord, deflected supplementary weft, overshot-pattered double weave, and cannelé.
