About
Learn how to draw different types of boats and paint vivid water reflections with award-winning artist Ina Xi.
This intensive, four-part painting course starts with drawing techniques to convey accurate curvatures of boats, delves into the key characteristics of different types of boats, studies how reflection and shadows behave under different weather conditions, and finishes with a painting of a harbor scene.
This is not an introductory watercolor class. Some experience in sketching and using watercolor is strongly advised. If you're a seasoned watercolor painter, this will still be engaging, help you dive deep into the chosen subject, and strengthen your skills.
Details
- Session 1: You'll observe how the curvatures of boats shift at various angles and learn to draw accurate perspectives no matter the angle. You'll also learn how the shapes of the reflections behave depending on the angle of the boats.
- Session 2: The basic boat shape will evolve into more complex shapes and you'll draw different types of boats. You'll start adding backgrounds and foregrounds to create “mini scenes.” Through that, you'll observe and learn the key characteristics of different boat types.
- Session 3: You'll start applying tonal values to the drawing done in previous class, to learn how to create three-dimensionality for rounded shapes, and convey different mood, weather, and lighting conditions.
- Session 4: We'll take what we've learned in previous classes, and draw a harbor scene together without using any reference photos. Then color will be applied to finish the painting.
