Washi tape art is for everyone. If you can use scissors and/or an X-Acto knife, you’re good to go.

If you enjoy texture, glimmer, or shine then this class is for you! Maybe you’d rather work with muted colors? We’ve got you covered! You’ll have more than 100 washi tapes to choose from.

Instructor
Melody Maleitzke

Melody came across washi tape in 2019. It was fascinating stuff, so she found herself buying more than was necessary for a craft project. One afternoon, her daughter was bored and Melody said, “Let’s ‘paint’ with washi tape.” They both grabbed a canvas and decided to do portraits of one another. That’s when the magic happened. The world of washi tape art opened up and Melody began creating art with the delicate, patterned tape as her medium. She found a medium that embodies the essence of the “art of letting go” and is thrilled at the dimensionality of the tape on canvas. Melody's washi tape art has won awards and has been featured in art exhibitions. She has taught washi tape art at Las Cruces Museum of Art in New Mexico, Bellevue Arts Museum, and Red Tricycle Gallery on Bainbridge Island. Melody has been on the Bainbridge Island Studio Tour since 2020 and is the founder of Bainbridge Island Art and Charitable Artists. She is currently creating a book for beginners to this craft. She lives on Bainbridge Island.
