Dive into the delicious world of Vietnamese flavors. We'll show you how to build a fragrant, clear Phở Gà broth and walk you through the art of bowl assembly, layering silky rice noodles and fresh aromatics to create a beautiful, balanced presentation.

We will explore the essential "garden" of toppings that make phở so vibrant, from the crisp bite of bean sprouts and the zing of fresh lime to the brightness of Thai basil, cilantro, and sliced bird's eye chilies.

To really elevate this pho bowl, add a special twist: steamed Shanghainese chicken. You'll learn how to prepare this tender, savory topping to give your soup a gourmet upgrade.

We'll also discuss the culture behind the bowl and how to avoid those common phở faux pas. To wrap things up on a sweet note, we’ll end with a traditional Sticky Rice and Black-eyed Peas Pudding for dessert.

Put together a phở spice kit to take home, so you can keep the magic going in your own kitchen!

 On the menu:

  • Phở Gà (Vietnamese chicken soup with rice noodles)
  • Shanghainese steamed chicken
  • Phở seasoning kit
  • Che Dau Trang (sticky rice black-eyed peas pudding)

Instructor
Theary Tran

Theary spent her childhood years in her native Cambodia, where cooking was integral to the culture. Cooking with local ingredients and trusting her senses, Theary learned to achieve flavor in dishes that looked as good as they tasted. These skills enabled her to feel at home regardless of the cuisine she's exploring. For the past 20 years, Theary has been bringing her love of art and cooking to children and adults, teaching fundamentals as building blocks for creativity. The result is a safe and encouraging environment for students to explore their imaginations. Her goal is for each student to have a positive experience that inspires self-confidence, and the opportunity to connect with their own creativity. Theary is currently a K-6 educator locally and in Sonoma County. In her spare time, she spends time in the water, kayaking, hiking, or biking.
