About

In this Earth Day–themed mosaic workshop, you'll create a finished mosaic by upcycling a small, sturdy object from home using reclaimed scrap glass. You'll learn how to prepare your surface, plan a design, safely cut and shape glass, and set tesserae with mosaic adhesive, leaving your piece ready for grouting at home if needed.

You will use professional mosaic tools, including glass cutters, nippers, and shared studio equipment, with guidance on safe and effective techniques. The class emphasizes thoughtful material choices and working creatively with reclaimed materials to reinforce a reduce–reuse–recycle mindset.

Details

  • Skill level: All.
  • Bring an item from home to upcycle. The suggested maximum is 1 square foot. It should not be anything flexible (if it bends, it’s not appropriate to mosaic upon).

Details

A materials fee of $10, included in the cost of the class, covers glass, adhesives, surface prep and a grout kit.

Class Policies

  • You must wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
  • No food and only covered beverages in the studio.
  • Ages 14 and up are welcome.
Instructor
Barbara Henderson

Barbara is a mosaicist with a passion for helping others express themselves through the art of mosaics. She discovered art a little later in life than lots of other people, having been distracted by corporate life, ladder climbing, and the nonsense idea that she wasn’t creative. Now her favorite thing is to watch a student realize their unique ability to produce something personal and meaningful, and to develop their own artistic vision. Her favorite saying is that “perfection can be purchased at the Dollar Store. Art and beauty are found in the unique and flawed.” She serves on a variety of boards and committees and lives in Gig Harbor with her husband and far too many dogs and chickens.
