Ukulele Build Kickoff
Learn what’s involved in building a ukulele and the support you would get if a ukulele-building group forms at BARN.
If you’re interested in building a tenor pineapple ukulele, especially if you want to do it as part of a group that shares tips and gets instruction about tricky details along the way, this kickoff class is for you.
This session is designed to:
- Provide an overview of the build process.
- Outline a series of meet-ups and classes of one to three sessions to follow on topics such as preparing the wood, bracing the top and back, making the sides, gluing up the body, choosing and installing binding and purfling, making or purchasing a ready-made neck and fretboard, making the bridge, testing the sound, and applying finish.
- Give you a small taste of the build process by hand-carving some of the braces you'll need for a ukulele build.
Details
- This is an introduction and overview. You'll learn about some of the materials, tools, skills, and the time commitment necessary to complete the instrument, and get a chance to poke at a couple of hand-built ukuleles. You won't be building a full ukulele in this two-hour session.
- You'll receive a free ukulele plan and written instructions, sufficient to build a ukulele on your own or with group support.
