About

Make a wooden board that's perfect for serving festive food — including the goodies you can prepare if you also sign up for "Date Night: Vegan Grazing Boards and Wine Tasting" here on Saturday, Dec. 10 (must be 21 to attend).

In keeping with the "Date Night" theme of the Kitchen Arts class, you can bring another person to this class without an additional charge. Beginning woodworkers are welcome, but because you will be using power tools, no alcohol is involved. Do not drink before the class.

BARN will have a supply of wood available. You can choose a board and cut it to a shape on the bandsaw, or you can select a slab of wood that still has a natural edge. You will be able to add details, such as a recess for a dip or condiment bowl, if you want that embellishment. By the end of the evening, you should have a board that's smooth, has finish and is ready to use.

Details:

  • Ages 14+ are welcome in this class. But please note that you cannot participate in the Kitchen Arts class the following week unless you are at least 21 years old.
  • Please click here for BARN's current COVID-19 health & safety protocols.

  • You must wear safety glasses and closed-toe shoes, tie back long hair, and avoid loose-fitting clothing and jewelry. We recommend bringing your own safety glasses.

  • BARN is committed to accessibility. Tuition Assistance is available - click here to fill out the simple application before registering for a class. For those who might need physical assistance, please learn about BARN's Companion Program here.

Instructor: Carol Fiedler Kawaguchi is a professional woodworker who specializes in restoration of antique furniture through her business, C-Saw, on Bainbridge Island. She also makes custom furniture, including the slab coffee table in the Commons at BARN.
