About

Transfer printing, also called draw-through or inversion printing, is an easy and satisfying way of making images filled with background texture and tone.  Drawing on an inked plate and then printing the remainder allows you to create a positive and a negative of your image.  Join us to experiment with this fun process and make a series of unique, personal prints. We will use a variety of types and weights of paper to print and collage.

All you need are some some ideas to work from, or bring some drawings if you have them.  Paper, ink and glue will be provided.

Details:

  • No prerequisite is needed.  All levels of students welcome.
  • A Materials Fee of $20 will be added to the class cost upon registration, which includes ink and several sheets of japanese and other printmaking papers.  Additional print paper is available for purchase in the studio.
  • Feel free to bring lunch.  There is an eating area adjacent to the studio classroom, and there is a kitchen in which you can store and reheat food.
  • To allow our instructors time to prepare adequately, registration will close 5 days before the class date. This practice also allows us to extend you the courtesy of notifying you of cancellation, if you have registered and the class has not reached the minimum to run.  So, register early! Thank you for your understanding!

Instructor Bio:

Martha Makosky has been making art in various media since childhood, including carving and printing blocks by hand. She expanded her horizons in printmaking by studying monotype when she moved to Bainbridge in 2002.  She found it integrated all the skills she had been playing with all her life in an unexpected dialogue with the press. Since then she has continued to learn and experiment with a wide variety of printmaking methods.

Martha has enjoyed taking classes and workshops with master printers locally and in Mexico. Collecting and combining different ways of making images keeps prompting inspiration. Her prints usually involve layering and may include drawing, oil pastel, painting, collaging, stenciling, etching, and other types of image transfer processes.
