Chief Dale Harry, a Hereditary Chief of Squamish Nation, BC, will facilitate this four-hour workshop where participants will lace their own elk or deer hide over a 14-inch maple frame. At the end of the workshop, Chief Dale will share the teachings of the drum and lead a community-building talking circle. 

Those who wish may return to BARN the following day (Monday, October 10th) at 5:45pm to learn a Coast Salish drum song from Chief Dale to be sung at 6:45pm at the BARN Indigenous Peoples' Day Community Gathering. 

We are honored to host this workshop, and grateful to the City of Bainbridge Island for funding which enables us to offer this workshop to the community for the cost of materials only.

Instructor Bio:

Chief Dale Harry was born and raised in Squamish, BC. He is one of sixteen Hereditary Chiefs of the S?wx_wú7mesh Úxwumixw. Chief Dale’s deep connection to the Squamish community is evidenced by the many boards, organizations, and committees with which he has been associated: Aboriginal Housing Management Association, Squamish Nation Peacekeepers, Aboriginal Education Council School District #48, Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Center, and Squamish Valley Development Corporation. We are honored to have him join us at BARN for this unique learning opportunity.
