About

Come explore Asian Ink Painting with Allison Svoboda, a 2017 Bloedel Reserve Creative Resident. Learn to paint the basic brushstrokes for chrysanthemum, bamboo, plum blossom, and orchid. These are also known as the four Gentlemen representing the four seasons. We can then use these traditional brush strokes to create paintings from local plant material.

There is an additional $7 in material fees which will be added to the total cost of the class when you register on line. If you send a check, please be sure to include the $7 materials fee.

Instructor Bio

Chicago artist, Allison Svoboda works with traditional Asian painting techniques to create large scale installations made from handmade Kozo paper.  She recently won the Hemera Foundation grant to study in Japan where she lived in a Zen temple and learned traditional calligraphy.  She is currently the artist in residence at Bloedel Reserve.
