About

This event has been canceled. The next Teen Night is on Friday, April 17th.

High school students in grades 9 - 12 are invited to create and hang out at BARN at our monthly Teen Nights!  Come enjoy free food and drink. Play games in the BARN Commons. Explore a Studio project and learn new skills. Bring friends. Meet new friends.

You can sign up for activities in our lobby when you arrive. Most activities are an hour long or less so you will be able to do at least two different projects over the course of the evening.

Check out the awesome lineup we have this month!

Laser-cut Wooden Lanterns

In this activity, we'll create beautiful wooden lanterns with flickering LED lights shining through mulberry paper panels.  First we'll take a look at the lantern pattern inside the free browser-based design program Tinkercad. Then we'll watch the ETA's laser cutter get to work cutting the pieces. Finally, we'll assemble the paper and wood pieces together and connect the LEDs and battery. There are lots of different colors and textures of mulberry paper to choose from to create a custom look for your lantern.

Triangle Origami Box

Maybe you’ve made a paper box before, but have you ever made one in the shape of a triangle?  Learn to fold and assemble Tomoko Fuse’s origami triangle box and lid, using a single modular form repeated six times—good practice!

Grand Old 4th Poster Contest Art Session - Winner gets $1,000!

Make a drawing or painting to submit to the Bainbridge Island Chamber of Commerce for their Grand Old 4th Poster Contest.  The winner will be awarded a whopping $1,000 thanks to Puget Sound Energy!  We will provide paper and art supplies but you're welcome to bring your favorite markers, colored pencils, or paints from home.  The topic is ‘My favorite thing about the 4th of July on Bainbridge Island' so start planning your design now!

Sew a wallet!

Choose from one of two wallet styles and a variety of fun & colorful fabrics to sew your very own lined wallet!  Please note this is a double session so if you sign up for this project, please plan to stay for the whole time.

Energy Bars & Energy Balls

Learn how to make healthy but delicious no-bake treats to pack and bring to school, sports practices, and more!

Printmaking

Lauren Campbell will be back this month to guide you through a printmaking project.  Let your inner artist shine!

Make a smartphone stand

Learn how to cut & bend metal with some giant tools in the Sheet Metal studio, and form a stand out of a piece of aluminum for a phone or tablet.

Beading in the Jewelry Studio

Beading can be therapeutic after a busy week!  Come on into our Jewelry Studio and string beads to your heart's content.  Make a necklace or bracelet for yourself, or create a piece to contribute to BARN's community service beading for seniors project.

Questions: contact Jess Henderson at BARN at 206-842-4475 x221 or email: JessH@bainbridgebarn.org.

Teen Nights are generously funded by a grant from the City of Bainbridge Island.
