Have you dyed yarn with acid dyes before, but really want to understand how to get specific shades and recreate the same colorways again? Join us for a full day, deep dive into creating consistent, repeatable colors and colorways. During this workshop you will learn about depth of shade, how to plan your colorway to be repeatable, and how to calculate the amount of dye needed to precisely replicate your results.

• Skill Level: Beginning
• Wear dark colors and/or something that you don't mind getting stained. Dyeing can be a messy process.
• n95/kn95 or similar masks will be provided and are required when dry dye powders are in use in the lab. You may bring your own respirator or mask as long as it meets those requirements. Woven cloth masks are not acceptable.
• A $25 kit fee, included in the cost of the class, includes 200g of fingering weight superwash merino yarn, a disposable respirator, and enough dye and citric acid to fully saturate skeins with color. See "Materials" below for what students should bring.

Project

You will dye a set of five mini skeins of yarn in a single color gradient, in order to learn how to achieve a specific depth of shade. Once you have done that, you will then dye two x 50g skeins of yarn in separate batches with at least two colors in order to try to get them to match as closely as possible.

Prerequisites

Students should have taken the BARN class Playing With Color: An Intro to Creative Contemporary Yarn Dyeing Techniques, or equivalent introductory acid dye class experience.
