Use a forge to heat pieces of steel red hot and hammer them into the shape of a chisel. Repeat, again and again, temper and quench. 

This chisel making class serves as an introduction to basic blacksmithing. 

The class covers:

• Safety and good practice
  
• Discussion of “smithing”: forging, drawing, heat-treating, and finishing
  
• Introduction to the propane forge and hand tools
  
• Shaping and drawing a blank
• Heat treating
  
• Grinding
  
• Finishing
  
  

Details:

Age Level: Youth Class, Ages *12-17.

• *12 to 14 must be accompanied by an adult

• If you sign up for the full week of classes offered in the Metal Fabrication studios (July 22 through July 26) you will receive a 20% discount. To register for all five classes please call (206) 842-4475 at extension 216 or 220 OR email info@bainbridgebarn.org to request registration for all five classes and the discount will be applied appropriately. 

• Remember to bring the signed permission slip to the first day of class. 

• BARN reserves the right to cancel this class in the case of low enrollment and will notify families of this decision one week prior to the start of the class.  A full refund will be given. 
  

• Students must wear natural fiber clothing, long pants, closed toe shoes, no stretch fabrics, and please tie long hair back.

• Alchemy Industrial Arts will provide Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
• Class size is limited to 4 students to provide good mentoring.
