About

This class has been canceled. Contact julie@bainbridgebarn.org with any questions. For youth ages 14 -18

MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding is the easiest kind of welding to learn and a technique with broad applications.

At the end of the class, students should be able to lay down a weld bead, identify the characteristics of a good bead, and problem solve for the causes of incorrect beads. Students may progress to simple welded pieces and may compete a simple project like a pair of bookends.

Class size is 3 people facilitating one-on-one learning and direct mentoring from a professional welder. Each participant will have the use of a fully equipped Miller 215 welder.

The three hour class costs $64 for members and $77 for non-members.  There is an additional $15 materials fee for steel, gas, and filler wire that will be added to the cost of the class when you register.

Safety and Personal Protection Equipment will be provided by BARN.

Important Notes:

  • Please bring this permission slip to the first day of class.
  • Minimal financial assistance available. Please apply here.
  • If you would like BARN to know any specific information about your child's allergies or learning needs, please email Julie Leung: julie@bainbridgebarn.org
  • Students must wear natural fiber clothing, long pants, closed toe shoes, no stretch fabrics, long hair tied back. Dress warmly, the studio may be cold.
  • This is a 1-day, three hour, class.

Instructor:

Erin Munter was raised locally on the Island. In her 20's she moved to Oakland, California and attended the welding program at Laney College for 4 years. During this time she interned and volunteered at a metal arts school called The Crucible. She returned to Bainbridge Island and began doing furniture bases and other fabrication for Coyote Woodshop. Eventually she moved on to work at an Island fabricating shop as well as teach at another Kitsap area school aimed towards children's welding education. She still currently does fabrication all over Kitsap. Her passion is everything welded including large and small indoor and outdoor household amenities. She also takes part in the local art community with sculptures in local shows past and future.
