The seat and back on this chair are separate pieces that slide together and interlock to become a chair. If you want to pop the chair into a car before a picnic or stow it away for winter, you can separate the sections without any tools, leaving two nearly flat, easy-to-carry pieces.

Learn how the properties of wood influenced the design details of this chair. Then cut the parts and use a variety of power tools to smooth the legs and the slats. You'll attach the slats to the legs with screws.
