Make projects that are sure to generate laughs — a squirrel cage and a candy dispenser — as well as a cell phone holder or a tote and maybe a few other practical things as you learn a lot about woodworking. You'll learn:

• How to design your projects so they hold together.
• How to measure and mark the pieces you need.
• How to cut them accurately with a hand saw, a bandsaw or a scroll saw, and a chisel, depending on the shapes you need.
• How to smooth pieces using a hand plane, a rasp, and sandpaper.
• How to fasten pieces together.
