Tube setting, which is similar to bezel setting, is a natural starting point when introducing faceted stones. This type of setting securely holds the stone by compressing the tube walls over the outer edge of the stone while supporting from beneath. You will be setting small to medium stones, using the flex-shaft, burs, files, burnishers, and pushers.

Tube settings can be a quick, reliable, and versatile addition to your list of jewelry techniques. Although we will talk about materials and building options, this skill-building class focuses on cutting the seat, the mechanics of securing a faceted stone, and the process for setting that stone. This isn't a fabricating class, but if you finish, you could go home with something you can wear or give as a gift.

Details

• Materials kits will be provided. This is covered by a fee included in the cost of the class, and provides practice settings, finished pieces, and stones. There may be settings available for purchase from the instructor (bring cash).
• You should be comfortable using the flex-shaft. 
• It is recommended that you first take Stone Setting 1 - Basic Bezels - Ring class, but is not required.
• You can bring food/snacks for the 15- 30-minute break. BARN has a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

Details

In addition to an apron and mask, students can bring loupes or magnifiers, digital calipers, vices, setting burrs, flex shaft quick change and/or flex shaft hammer hand-pieces and any other setting tools if they have them and want to use them in class. Not required.
