Learn to create a stained glass window, an art with a proud history of a thousand years. Bainbridge glass artist Gregg Mesmer of Mesolini Glass Studio will guide you through the step-by-step process of building a stained glass window of 25 - 30 pieces, measuring approximately 2 feet by 2 feet. You will learn contemporary, innovative, and efficient methods to create this art piece, methods that Gregg has honed over his 30 years as a glass artist. He will guide you through design decisions, selecting materials, and assembling your abstract or figurative piece. Be a part of history. Create stained glass art.

NOTE:  We estimate there will be a $50 materials fee plus a $15 studio fee, payable to the instructor at the first class. These will cover drafting paper, pattern film, zinc and lead, and miscellaneous other supplies. Students can use what glass has been donated to BARN, however, know the supply is limited.  Students can purchase their own glass (approx $25- $75).

This class is for beginners.  Students must be over 18 years of age.

INSTRUCTOR: Gregg Mesmer and his wife, Diane Bonciolini, both recognized with a 2015 Island Treasure Award, moved to Bainbridge Island in 1977 and started the iconic Mesolini Glass Studio. He has been cutting glass professionally for decades, and the techniques he has used over the years will make everyone's glass-cutting experience successful. His expertise, however, goes beyond glass cutting to include other types of fabrication; all aspects of creating stained glass art; and leading, soldering and glazing of stained glass windows. Not only has Gregg found his own inspiration and creativity in glass, but he also inspires others. Over the years, he has worked on community projects and taught for Northwest Art Glass, the Bainbridge Park District, and Olympic College.
