Have ever dreamed of writing a novel? Or have you started a book project and found yourself floundering? If so, please join us for this survey class on the basics of writing fiction. They include:

• Character
• Plot
• Point of view
• Setting
• Dialogue
• Scene

We’ll also touch on a few highlights regarding publishing and pitching your work.

You’ll hear an overview of these topics and then have some time for questions and discussion. After the class, you will be sent a handout with the names of great books on writing and websites that will help you begin your journey as a writer. Come prepared to take notes and ask questions.

Level: Beginner (Writers of nonfiction are also welcome to attend.)

Instructor Bio:

Martha Kay Salinas writes young adult fiction and spends way too much time writing for Facebook instead of working on her blog. In an earlier life she worked as a marriage and family therapist. She earned an MFA in Creative Writing in 2015, and she’s currently writing a young adult novel set in 1968.
