About

Sketching is an important skill shared by makers across many disciplines! BARN is offering twice-monthly Sketching Open Studios free for BARN Members to practice and improve their sketching skills.

The first of two sessions each month will include a visual prompt and an introduction from Michael Gunderson, a veteran BARN instructor who will facilitate the sessions. The second session will allow students to continue their practice and ask questions.

To maintain physical distancing, we have limited the number of members who can attend. If a session is full, please add your name to the waitlist. There is no cost to do so. You will be contacted by phone or email if a spot opens up.

Details:

  • Paper and pencils will be supplied if needed, or participants are welcome to use their own sketchbooks and drawing tools.

  • This Open Studio is only open to BARN members as a member benefit. All members must register, no drop-ins, please. Please click Join Waitlist if this open studio fills.

  • Please click here for BARN's current COVID-19 health & safety protocols.

Monitor Bio:

Michael Gunderson moved to Bainbridge after a thirty-plus year career in California Public education. His degree is in the arts and has taught classes in art, jewelry, ceramics, and the trades, as well as serving as an activities and athletic director. He is a founding member of BARN and a past lead of BARN Woodworking.

He thinks of himself as a person who solves visual problems. He proposes a situation and looks to openly create a visual answer, whether it be paint, wood or combinations of media. “Drawing is a language that creatives share,” he said recently. His sketchbook is a companion that he converses with daily.
