About

Continue to advance your use of sheet metal tools in this sculpting with sheet metal class. Let your imagination fly as you cut, bend, roll, and shape sheet metal to your will.

We will focus on the use of hand shears, jump shear, brake, and rollers.  We will also use the spot welder to integrate multiple pieces of metal in one sculpture.  Photos and examples of work will be on hand to help understand the mechanics and spur your imagination.  With prior thought and planning, your project could be a scale model mock-up of a larger sculpture you have in mind.

You’ll get to experiment with how sheet metal naturally flows. By class end, you should have a feel for what can be accomplished with the material and tools. Bring your creativity!

Folks unacquainted with basic sheet metal tools and safety will benefit by attending BARN’s Sheet Metal Orientation & Safety class. While not a prerequisite, it is recommended.

Tools available to be used:  jump shear, notcher, small & large rollers, pan break, hand benders, hand shears, spot welder, and layout tools. Hammers (with anvil or shot bag) may be used for simple shaping.
