About

Come join the Fiber Studio at BARN for a Rigid Heddle Weave-Along!

This months warp along is creating a dented and crammed scarf.   This technique uses areas of high density of warp and weft threads to hold together areas of low density. The result is a Lacey lightweight scarf. This pattern warps and weaves quickly because you’ll only be weaving half the area.

This is a guided project where you will warp your loom and start weaving here and then finish your project on your own.

This weave-along is targeted towards those who already know how to warp their rigid heddle loom, but may be a little rusty and would like some guidance. Perhaps you have taken the introductory class here at BARN, or elsewhere, and now have your own loom. Or maybe you are more experienced and simply want to learn a new technique.

Materials: Participants should bring:

  • Bring smooth thin yarn 200 to 300 yards of lightweight yarn, like DK or sock yarn.   You want yarn that is not fuzzy or sticky, as in some areas you will be weaving with the strands closer together.  Wool or wool blend sock yarn is ideal for this pattern. Yarn should be wound into a ball or cake.

  • Rigid heddle loom, any width, with a 10-15 dent reed.  For Sock yarn, a 12-15, for DK 10-12.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner -- must be comfortable with warping a rigid heddle loom

Ages: Ages 14+ Welcome.

This class is open to all and is free for members but please register so we know if you are bringing a loom or using one of the studios' looms.

We have a refrigerator for people to store their drinks!

Host for the Weave-along: Dale Walker.
