Can fiction and poetry learn from one another?

Too often, writers work in the isolation of their own genre. We will break out of those silos. Two dynamic and accomplished authors, one a writer of fiction and memoir and the other a poet, can show writers of all genres how to deepen their craft.

Learn about writing more lyrically, using memorable image and metaphor, narrative arc, storytelling components, and more. We'll lean into questions like "What does it mean to bring music to the line?" "Why does something sound lyrical?" "How do we build tension or make a shift?" "How do we compress or expand a story?"

This four-hour class will be comprised of lectures from each teacher, questions and answers, group discussions, break-out writing sessions, and brief but stress-free workshop time.

• Skill level: Writer who are experienced, but not necessarily advanced.
• Bring a sack lunch, notebook, pen, and your curiosity.
