Break away from the single-color lino print using a reliable technique for accurately aligning multiple plates. Learn how to make a master drawing and transfer it to two plates. You'll carve and print the first color plate using registration boards and pins and learn all the skills needed to print the second plate on your own or during an optional, follow-up open studio (described below). Prints should dry for one week prior to printing the second color.  

Details

• You need to bring a 6" X 6" design for a two-color print to class.
• You're encouraged to sign up for an open studio session on May 25, during which instructor Ann Lovett will be available to help while you print the second color using your second plate. You'll need to carve your second plate before that open studio.
• Please bring lunch. BARN has a refrigerator and microwave on the lower level.

• A materials fee of $40, included in the cost of the class, covers everything you'll need, including:

• Two 6" X 6" pieces of unmounted linoleum
• Carving tools
• Ink (Caligo Safewash)
• Paper (Somerset Satin or BFK Rives)
• Graphite transfer paper
• Pin registration boards and tabs
• Aprons

Project

You'll produce four linoleum block prints in one color that are accurately registered so you can print a second color at the follow-up open studio or at a later time.

Prerequisites

You must have taken an introductory linocut class, such as Introduction to Linocut, prior to taking this class.
