Learn the basics of turning wood on a lathe in this introductory class that will focus on using the lathe to make wood pens. Students will make one or more wood pens during this class and will learn all the required steps to make a pen using the lathe.

The class will also cover safety, wood selection, tool types, sharpening, and lathe adjustment and accessories, including different chucks and mandrels used for pen making.  All wood and supplies are provided for class projects.

The first evening of this class will be an introduction to the lathe and all the steps required in pen making.  The following session will  be using the lathe to make your pen.

No previous experience is necessary.

INSTRUCTOR:  Bruce Claiborne began turning in earnest in 2008 after completing the  40 hour Craft Supply Basic Woodturning course under professional turner, Kirk DeHeer.  Currently Bruce volunteers regularly at the Bainbridge High School Woods I and II classes to help students with their turning skills and projects.  Bruce is an active member of the Olympic Peninsula Chapter of the American Association of Woodturners.

Dave Kircher will assist in this class.
