Decorating paper for books has never been more fun. Suminagashi, Japanese for paper marbling, is a process that is delicately beautiful.  Using a simple water base and inks, paints are swirled on the base and then printed on Japanese rice paper.   When dried, these eye-catching papers may become a book's end pages, greeting cards, wall-hangings, book covers, and infinitely more. They are also great for use in printmaking for chine-collé.

Students will leave with at least a half-dozen decorated sheets, and a long list of possible uses for their suminagashi papers.

Susan M.
