Come have fun with natural dyes and try your  hand at painting  fabric!

Using natural dyes as paints on  fabrics (cellulose  fibers like cotton, bamboo, linen and silk) we will experiment with several different mordants and thickeners which can modify colors and discuss a variety of curing processes.  

Amy will bring some brushes, etc. but you may also want to bring paint brushes, sponges, paper towels, other odd things that might be fun to paint with. Also bring small pieces of various natural fiber fabrics. Amy will bring quite a bit, but you may have a fabric you wish to see the reactions on. Examples: Linen, Bamboo, Cotton, Hemp, Rayon.

Materials fee: Bring $5 cash or check payable to BARN to the first session.

Instructor: Amy Weber trained as a tapestry weaver and dyer and has worked as an artist since 1986. She now focuses almost exclusively on dyeing and painting using natural dyes and non-toxic mordants.
Amy has also worked as an arts administrator and has over 10 years experience serving on the boards of arts non-profits. She assisted several organizations as they formed, working to clarify vision and identify program needs and structures. Most recently she served on the Board of Arts Iowa City, a non-profit focused on creating enhanced accessibility to the arts in Iowa City through establishing a new arts center. Recent board affiliations include Bainbridge Artisan Resource Network (BARN) where she was a founding board member. On Bainbridge Island, she also served in an advisory role on the Education Committee for Bainbridge Island Museum of Art as it was building and preparing to open to the public.
