About

BARN member:  $180  (4 sessions)
Non-member:    $198  (4 sessions)
Tuesday afternoons, 3/3 to 3/24.

Learn layering and patterning techniques in this intermediate-level jewelry class. The course will focus on three processes:

  • Mokume gane, a Japanese technique for layering and patterning
  • Marriage-of-metals, which involves soldering a patchwork of metals together to create a sheet
  • Applique, a process in which metal of one color is soldered on top of metal of a different color and then rolled level

The class projects involve making samples, which you can later incorporate in pieces of  jewelry. This class will also help you further develop your soldering skills.

The class is open to students 16 and older who have completed at least two beginning-level classes or have the instructor's permission.

A $20 materials fee is payable to the instructor at the first class. Students also need to bring one piece of 22-gauge sterling sheet that is approximately 2 inches by 4 inches. Students can order more sterling silver for the following sessions. Purchase of sterling silver is extra.

INSTRUCTOR: Jane Martin has a bachelor of fine arts degree from University of the Arts (Philadelphia College of Art) in Philadelphia, PA. She has taught jewelry making at Pratt Fine Arts Center in Seattle, for the Seattle Metals Guild, and the Bainbridge Island parks department. Her jewelry is shown at Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle.
